MEET FRANCISCO

When we first heard of Francisco from a local restaurant we had eaten at in Oaxaca and loved the barro pieces they were using, we knew at that moment we had to meet him. After a lot of research and contacts, we found his home address. Up in the hills of a very windy far road from the center of Oaxaca stood a tall 3 story home, secluded from all the rest. Did we know where we were going? NO, Where we lost at first? YUP! But we were determined to meet him and bring his beautiful pieces to you. There in his home is where he creates all his masterpieces, he doesn’t have regular employees, and makes everything himself with the help of his daughters and nieces. It truly is a Family Business and all made with so much love. We are so happy to bring all his handmade pieces to your home.

MEET BARRO NINA

NO, her name isn’t Nina. In Mexico it is customary to reference the woman who baptized you as Nina. No, she is not our Nina, but if you met her you would know she is caring and nourturing like a godmother would be and we decided to nickname her BARRO Nina. We came across her merely by accident on a rainy day in a taxi in search of something else. Later we would realize it wasn’t an accident… it was FATE!

MEET SHALMA & JHONI

Meeting Shalma in a tianguis in the center of Oaxaca where she sets up a booth daily, amongst many others, was just by chance. We were quickly drawn to her designs. Later she invited us to visit her home where she runs the family business. The Sosa Family does traditional practice called Tellar de Pedal; wooden looms using foot pedals to activate the machine to form the patterns and fabric.

Artisan Jhoni learned from his father and now runs the business with his sister Shalma

MEET ALBERTA & EFROSINA

I’m sure you remember our adventure on our instagram stories of how we came across these 2 beautiful souls. After a 2 hour drive up in the mountains away from Oaxaca, merely asking around, with no address to give and only directions of “when you see this turn right and when you see that turn left” etc. etc. Walking up a sketchy dirt secluded road, where we are greeted by 10 dogs all barking at us and thinking to ourselves what the heck are we doing? We found this family of Artisans; Martinez Perez Sisters
Alberta & Efrosina live in the mountains of Oaxaca where they proudly create unique barro pieces and have the most humble and shy personality that you can’t help but fall in love with them.
